Summer of Socks

Finally, summer vacation is over. Tomorrow our everyday lives will be back: school, kindergarten, work. My knitting project for the summer were socks for my kids (as many as possible!), and, as always, I did not knit as many as I wish I had. Just one pair for my daughter (Spice Kids by Yarnissima size M, Zauberball colorway „Wolke Sieben“) and 1.75 pairs for my son (same pattern, also one Zauberball in an orange-blue colorway I do not remember the name of, and a beautiful handpainted skein, colorway „Bluebird“ by Sheepaints). That’s it. To my defense, I should say that we were vacationing in Gran Canaria, a spanish Island very close to Africa. It was hot and dry and I was not in the mood to pick up my knitting on every occasion. Last year, when we went to the German baltic coast, it rained 11 of 14 days, so I was happy to knit on my ever-growing Nuvem shawl almost all the time. But that’s precisely the reason why we did not want to stay in Germany this summer. When we looked up the German weather on the internet while we were away, we were very happy about our choice: 11 degrees Celsius and rain, every day (compared to 27 degrees and a very severe African sun in Gran Canaria). Nevertheless, we were a little bored by our vacation at the beach. More than three consecutive days of sun and sand and waves were just not interesting enough for the bunch of us. So next year, we will rent an RV and head to the Black Forest and the Alps. I am sure I will get more knitting done than this year.

  1. I love the photos you have added to this post! The socks look great – but Iknw what you mean about knitting in the heat… but I am certain your daughter loves her pretty lilac striped socks. :-D

  2. Hi Martina,
I just found your blog and your lovely patterns. I am trying to convince my son to buy a skein or two of Wollmeise while he is in Wurzburg for a month, so that I can knit one in that yarn too. What colour was the first Trillian you knit? It looks so beautiful!

  3. Ah, of course! I bought the pattern and I have my answer. Thank you!

  4. Hallo Martina,
