Am liebsten würde ich meinen Schlüsselbund immer mit in das Reißverschlussfach meiner Tasche schmeißen, in dem auch meine Kopfhörer, mein Telefon und mein Portemonnaie aufbewahre. Bisher habe ich das lieber gelassen, weil doch die Gefahr zu groß war, dass die Schlüssel das Telefon zerkratzen oder sich mit den Kopfhörern verheddern. Irgendwo hatte ich mal so schicke Lederhüllen gesehen, in denen man den Schlüsselbund versenken konnte, wenn er nicht im Gebrauch war. Und neulich, als ich in keinem Taschenladen so etwas finden konnte, fiel mir ein: Ich könnte mir ja selbst sowas machen. Da es möglichst fest und dick werden sollte, war klar, dass hier nicht die Strick- sondern die Häkelnadel gefragt war. Mit einem Rest von rund 20 Gramm Wollmeise 100% (Farbe: Regenbogen, zwei unterschiedliche Stränge) ist das Ergebnis richtig hübsch geworden, finde ich. Und es funktioniert: Die Schlüssel sind gut versteckt und pieken auch in der Hosentasche nicht mehr.

Für alle, die es nachmachen wollen, gibt es hier eine kurze, rudimentäre Anleitung:

Key Thingie

Material
• 20 Gramm Wollmeise Pure 100% Merino oder Twin in einer Multicolor-Farbe
• 3,0 mm Häkelnadel
• Stopfnadel
• Schlüsselband (hier von Tom Bihn, sollte aber mit jedem handelsüblichen Schlüsselband funktionieren.) Anmerkung: Ich habe den Schlüsselring nicht an dem Plastikkarabiner, sondern direkt an dem Band befestigt.

Anleitung
• Mit einer 3.00mm-Häkelnadel eine Luftmaschenkette häkeln, die gedehnt gerade um das Schlüsselband herumpasst.
• Nun mit festen Maschen weiterarbeiten, dabei während der ersten paar Runden so viele Maschen zunehmen (also jeweils zwei feste Maschen in eine Masche der Runde davor häkeln), dass der Umfang gut um den zu beherbergenden Schlüsselbund herumpasst.
• So lange in Runden feste Maschen häkeln, bis die gewünschte Länge erreicht ist, also der Schlüsselbund komplett in der Stoffhülle verschwindet.
• Garnenden vernähen.

I would love to just throw my keys in the same zippered pocket of my handbag that also contains my headphones, my phone and my wallet. But I did not dare to do that because keys are dangerous animals: They might scratch my phone or get tangled with my headphone chords. I remembered that I had seen a neat leather case somewhere that you could pull the keys into when not in use, but last time I checked my favorite bags stores, they did not have any of those. So I figured: I will just make one. The fabric would have to be thick and sturdy, so the crochet hook would be my weapon of choice. 20 g of Wollmeise Pure 100% (Colorway Regenbogen, two different skeins) became this little useful thing – and I am very fond of it.

For all of you who want to make one too, here are my rudimentary instructions:

Key Thingie

Materials
• 20 g Wollmeise Pure 100% Merino or Twin, multicolored
• 3 mm crochet hook
• Darning needle
• Key strap (I used one by Tom Bihn, but any other key strap will do the job, too). Note: I put my key ring directly onto the fabric loop of the key strap, not on the plastic hook.

Instructions
• Make a crochet chain that fits snugly around your key strap when stretched a little.
• Go on working in single crochet, increasing during the first couple of rounds (i. e. working two stitches into stitch of the previous round) until the desired circumference is reached. This depends on the number of keys you want to fit in, so you should try it on as you go.
• Continue working in single crochet until the sleeve is long enough to completely cover your keys.
• Weave in ends.
