Magrathea-Maths

Hier sind die Maschenzahlen der ersten Reihen:

Jeweis NACH Stricken der betreffenden Reihe lautet die Maschenanzahl….
1 : 6M
2: 6M
3: 10 M
4: 10 M
5: 14 M
6: 14 M
7: 17 M
8: 18 M
9: 20 M
10: 21 M
11: 23 M (5 rechts vom Marker, 18 links davon)
12: 24 M (6 – 18)
13: 26 M (6-20)
14: 27 M (7 – 20)
15: 29 M (7 – 22)

* Nach dem Anfangsteil hat man 10 Maschen kraus rechts und 25 für das Kantenmuster (7 „Netzmaschen“ + 18 Spitzenkante).
* Jeder Musterrapport des Mittelteils fügt dem kraus-rechts-Teil 4 Maschen hinzu.
* Danach strickt man die Reihen 1-7 des MIttelteils nocheinmal und fügt damit 3 Maschen hinzu.
* Die Maschenanzahl von Netzteil plus Kraus-Rechts-Teil muss vor Beginn der Kante durch 6 teilbar sein, damit der Rapport der Kante hinkommt.
* Also: 7 (Netzteil) + 10 (Kraus-Rechts vom Anfang) + 3 (letzte Reihen vor Kante) + x (Anzahl Wiederholungen) mal 4 = M (eine Zahl, die ein Vielfaches von 6 ist).
* Mathematisch: 7+10+3+4x=M
* Also: 20 + 4x = M.
* Achtung, Mathe: Jetzt klammern wir die 4 aus: 4(5+x)=M.
* In der Klammer muss jetzt etwas stehen, das durch 3 teilbar ist, damit M durch 6 teilbar ist. Also kann x zum Beispiel 1 sein (dann ist 5+x =6 und M=24). Oder 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37 und so weiter.
* Bei meinem Tuch war x=25, also lautet M=4*30=120. Auf der Nadel sind jetzt also 120 Maschen plus die 18 Maschen für das Kantenmuster links vom „Netzteil“, die praktischerweise auch durch 6 teilbar sind. Also insgesamt 138 Maschen.
* Daher die Regel: Vor Beginn der Kante muss die Gesamt-Maschenanzahl durch 6 teilbar sein.

Here is a stitch count for the first couple of rows of „Magrathea“:

After knitting row number X, the stitch count is…
1 : 6 st
2: 6 st
3: 10 st
4: 10 st
5: 14 st
6: 14 st
7: 17 st
8: 18 st
9: 20 st
10: 21 st
11: 23 st (5 right of marker, 18 left of marker)
12: 24 st (6 – 18)
13: 26 st (6-20)
14: 27 st (7 – 20)
15: 29 st (7 – 22)

Ich hoffe, das hilft Ihnen weiter!

There was a question about the stitch count I gave in my new pattern „Magrathea“. So, for those who are into knitting maths, I would like to share my calculations here – but please don’t be intimidated by this, you really do not have to understand to successfully finish a Magrathea shawlette. I do the maths, you do the knitting, okay?

* After the setup rows, you have 10 stitches in garter stitch and 25 for the lace part (7 in „net pattern“ + 18).
* Each time you knit the 8 rows of the body pattern chart, you add 4 stitches to the garter-stitch-part.
* After that you knit rows 1-7 again, adding 3 more stitches to the garter-stitch-part.
* The stitch count of the net part plus the garter-stitch-part must be a multiple of 6 such that „Edging Chart I“ can be worked properly.
* So: 7 (net) + 10 (garter stitches of setup rows) + 3 (last rows before Edging) + 4*x(number of repeats)= M (number divisible by 6).
* Mathematically, that’s: 7+10+3+4x=M or 20 + 4x = M.
* Caution, this is maths: We’re putting the 4 in front of the bracket: 4(5+x)=M.
* In the bracket there now has to be a number that’s a multiple of 3, such that M will be a multiple of 6. So x can be 1, for example (then, 5+x=6 and M=24). Or 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37 and so forth.
* In my version, x was 25, such that M=4*30=120. On the needles there are now 120 stitches plus 18 stitches that are left of the „net“ (also divisible by 6), such that the total stitch count is 138.
* So the stitch count before starting Edging Chart I must be a multiple of 6.
