Strickmich! Sommer Camp Week 2
I hope you have chosen an enjoyable project and are having fun while knitting on it during these lazy days. We will continue our journey of knitting together apart this week – and that’s also what our motto for our photo challenge is: knitting together at a distance. It’s what’s required right now, but we are surely making the best of it by attending online classes, visiting virtual knitting events and having knitting zoom conferences with our best knitting buddies.
How can we knit together while being apart? What do you do to connect with other knitters during these times? Do you meet up outside and knit at a 10 feet distance? Strickmich! Sommer Camp Woche 1
We’re starting our Strickmich! Sommer Camp! I am happy that you are with us. We will knit together during six weeks (until August 31st). You will receive a weekly Camp Newsletter via email and there will be a photo challenge every week. Choose a knitting project that looks fun to you – it does not matter which pattern or yarn you are using. The last photo challenge will be to post a picture of your finished project! Of course, I would be delighted to see you making one of my patterns and using yarn from Strickmich! Shop, but it’s definitely not a must. If you order for 25 Euros (excluding virtual goods and shipping) or more from Strickmich! Shop until August 31st, we will throw in our Camp Goodies.

Strickmich! Sommer Camp
Join us at Strickmich! Sommer Camp!
For six weeks this summer, we will knit together, sit by the lake or by the fire, cool our feet in the water and have a good time! Every participant chooses her own project and yarn. I would be delighted if you chose one of my patterns and a yarn from Strickmich! Shop, but it’s definitely not a must. It’s summer, and as cannot travel as we would like, we might at least knit what we please, right?

Knitting Easy & Relaxed: Scrunchie
My new (German-speaking) video for beginning knitters is live on Youtube! Today, we are making a scrunchie out of fingering weight yarn.
For everyone who already knows how to knit:
Materials
10 g colorful sockyarn (Crazy Zauberball, colorway Gartenparty),
2-3 mm circular needle, 80 cm long,
20 cm elastic cord.
Cast on 24 stitches, close to knit in the round and knit until the tube is about 36 cms long.
Bind off, add the elastic cord and sew the ends together.
Knitting Easy & Relaxed: Handwarmers
This is a pattern for a little video series I made in German for beginning knitters with small and quick projects.
For those of you who would like to make them and already know how to knit, here’s the pattern:
Handwarmers
Materials: 40 g “Pur” by Schoppel, Colorway Denim (150 m / 100 g)
Suitable knitting needles (4,5-7 mm)
Tapestry Needle
Cast on 30 stitches.
Row 1: knit
Row 2: k2tog, knit to last stitch, kfb.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the short side of the parallelogram fits around your hand. Bind off.
Sew the cast-on edge and the cast-off edge together, leaving an opening for the thumb. Sew in ends. Done!
Knitting Event on May 23rd cancelled
Dear knitters, with a heavy heart we decided to cancel our planned knitting event and Cast-on Event for Strickmich! Club on May 23rd. It is currently unclear whether we will be allowed to hold our event and sell cake and coffee under the Corona pandemic restrictions, and also we are commited to protect your health. Polarlys
One of the most spectacular phenomena on this planet must be the Northern Lights: In colors from blue-teal to purple they illuminate the sky close to the North Pole, and if you are lucky during your vacation in one of the northern Scandinavian countries, you will see them. This shawl was inspired by the Northern Lights (“Polarlys” is the Danish word for them), as its shape resembles the broad strokes that the light paints on the sky. Polarlys starts with Judy’s Magic Cast-on and is knit from the middle in rounds – entirely without purl stitches, ending with an asymmetrical mesh lace border.
This knitting project was part of Strickmich! Club 2019 – the pattern was exclusive to our club members for six months. The colorway you can see in the pictures was only available to them. But good news: In Strickmich! Shop, we carry this beautiful yarn “BFL + Silk Lace” by Sweetgeorgia from Canada in six stunning colors.:

Tough & Toasty
I made these little short hand warmers out of pure necessity: My office tends to be a little cold – which I appreciate during the summer months, but it can be a bit annoying during winter. My hands are often cold while I work at the computer, so I decided I needed a pair of woollen fingerless mitts. I wanted them to be adaptable to the wearer’s wrist circumference, just as the “Tensfield” hat can be adapted to the recipient’s head size. It should also work in different yarn weights and be easy to work: no seams, no putting stitches aside, no cast-on, and no purling. The result is a pair of really cool hand warmers named “Tough & Toasty” that knit up superfast, use only very little yarn (16–20 g per pair), and make a great gift. I designed them to be really short so they won’t get in the way when you wear a long-sleeved sweater with them – and you will still be able to access your wristwatch.
