Fractal Danger

FractalDangerbyMartinaBehm 9
I am sure all of you know the wonderful Knitmore Girls and their podcast, right? I love how enthusiastic they are about all things fiber, and I love listening to them chatting away. When Jasmin (the daughter) asked me if I would like to design a Knitmore-themed shawlette, how could I refuse? Especially as the yarn they sent me (by Abstract Fiber) was so stunningly beautiful:

The colorway is called “Danger”, and the shawlette consists of self-repeating triangular shapes – the definition of a fractal. They are often found in nature, like in leaves, but they are also a nice little mathematical game.

The pattern is available on Ravelry for you to enjoy!

Match & Move

MatchandMovebyMartinaBehm2

I just love the “We’re Different”-Grab Bags from Rohrspatz & Wollmeise: Depending on which kind you choose, you will get a combination of a multicolor and a matching semisolid, hand-picked by the dyemaster herself, who has an unmatched sense of color. What shall I say? I was really surprised when I saw that she teamed up a softly variegated brown-grey with a bold and warm red. I just had to give it a try and get my knitting needles moving!

MatchandMovebyMartinaBehm 6

So here’s “Match + Move”, a shawl designed to show off the perfect Wollmeise color combination and use up (almost!) an entire grab bag of yarn. My shawl weighs 286 Grams. The unusual construction results in kinked stripes that look really interesting when you wear it.

MatchandMovebyMartinaBehm 4

The knitting is plain garter stitch and very relaxing, and the shawl is so big and comfy, it is just a dream to wear. Definitely my favorite shawl so far – and I am determined to order another grab bag, be surprised and knit myself one more.

Size of the shawl in the pictures: 200 x 50 cm (80 x 20 inches)

286 g of yarn (140 g of color A and 146 g of color B)

Available here in my Ravelry store (€ 3.90).

Braidsmaid

There is something fascinating about reversible knitted cables – and they are just perfect to give a simple, but unusually constructed garter stitch shawlette a little twist. For this project, you should indulge and use the shiniest, softest yarn you can get your hands on. The yarn I used is Nature’s Luxury new release “On Stage”, a super-luxurious blend of Wool, Silk and Camel fibers, hand-dyed by lovely Danica in her colorway “Blue Hotel”.

BraidsmaidbyMartinaBehm16

The design is such that the yarn is the star – and wearing this shawlette, you will fees like one as well. You can use any amount of yarn and knit a shawlette in the size you desire, the pattern is adjustable.

If you have never tried cabling before, this is the perfect project to start!
Written-out pattern, no chart.

Size of the shawl shown in the pictures: Length 160 cm (64 in), width 37 cm (15 in). I used ca. 175 g of the yarn.

Jasminde

Jasminde 1

A pretty triangular shawl with a simple, geometric lace pattern and a stunning effect – that’s “Jasminde”, the third pattern from Strickmich! Club-year 2014. The pattern features actually only two different patterning rows, so it is also suitable for knitters who have not tried any lace before. Instructions include both the chart and the written out version of the pattern. 150 g fingering weight yarn will yield a shawl with about 2 meters wingspan.

On the pictures, it is shown in “Kneif mich!” (“Pinch me!”), a colorway exclusively developed by Rohrspatz & Wollmeise on their Merino yarn base “Pure”.

“Jasminde” is now available for you here on Ravelry. Happy knitting!

Events, Events!

I am so happy! Our very first Cast-On-Event for Strickmich! Club was wonderful. Lots of great people, among them Claudia from Rohrspatz & Wollmeise herself. She had dyed the stunning club color, and she talked about it a bit during our presentation of the yarn and the pattern. It was great to have her here! She also brought some yarn, and our club members had the privilege to be the very first people to browse our little Wollmeise pop-up-store. On the following weekend, we hosted our very first “Open Studio” – an afternoon by the fire with coffee and cake and so many knitters who came to warm up my studio and the garden room (where coffee was served). It was great to see my knitting friends from Hamburg and meet new lovely people from Kiel and other places up north. This inspired us to host more events and knitting classes in the course of the year – and we are proud and happy to announce that we will have a small and beautiful selection of Rohrspatz & Wollmeise yarns here for knitters to shop (Pure, Blend and Lace), so knitters from the north of Germany will have the opportunity to see their yarns live and in person without traveling 700 kilometers.

Our events for the year are scheduled as follows:

28. March: Class “Tensfield” and Open Studio
9. May: Cast-on Event for members of Strickmich! Club
16. May: Class Stricken mit Multicolor-Garnen and Open Studio
13. June: Class “Lace-Stricken und Strickschriften” and Open Studio
11. July: Class (topic to be determined) and Open Studio
12. September: Cast-on Event for members of Strickmich! Clubtarget=”_blank”>Strickmich! Club-Mitglieder
26. September Class (topic to be determined) and Open Studio
17. October: Class (topic to be determined) and Open Studio
14. November: Cast-on Event for members of Strickmich! Club
21. November: Class (topic to be determined) and Open Studio

I hope to see lots of you in person!

Langfield

LangfieldbyMartinaBehm 4

Make a hat that will fit anyone from baby to adult! No matter what kind of yarn you use, what size your head is or what gauge you are knitting at: This hat is adjusted as you go, you can make it tight or a little looser, and you can also choose how long you want it to be. Fold it up or wear it slouchy-style. The interesting construction looks particularly good in a gradient yarn or your very own handspun, or use scraps of sockyarn. Anything will work!

LangfieldbyMartinaBehm 9

This is a sister pattern to my beanie hat pattern “Tensfield”. “Langfield” is a slouchy hat. If you are looking for a tight-fitting beanie, please have check out Tensfield.

LangfieldbyMartinaBehm 12

Yarn used in the pictues: Zitron Nimbus, color 20. Like “Tensfield”, this hat can be made with your favorite yarn, no matter what weight!
